2nd/3rd Fall Adventures


During the fall, we did a few fall projects including some art and dissecting some owl pellets. The kids were pretty amazed at the uncovering bones and skulls that were fully intact. They used a chart to try and identify what animal had been the source of food for that particular owl.

A to Z Author Challenge- due May 26th

AMAZING AUTHORS A to Z Library Reading Challenge Welcome to the library reading challenge! This year, students will read books by 26 different authors with last names* beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Not only does this expose students to a variety of authors and illustrators, it also encourages reading across different genres (*For the letter X, they read an “eXtra” author of choice). Learning Styles

During enrichment class this week, we will be examining our learning styles and personality as part of our unit on identity. The students will be doing a lab to examine their learning preferences. They will then take a self-assessment. Here is one self-assessment your student can take in class or at home. The vocabulary is a little more advanced so is probably best for the 4th/5th graders or for parents to do with their child. https://www.edutopia.org/multiple-intelligences-assessment The purpose of these assessments are for kids to develop awareness about what type of learner they are and also realize that all kids are different types of learners. That way, we can be more sensitive to the kids who, for example, do not like to read because they prefer building and problem solving. Enrichment October 17 and 19

I received glowing reports from the sub about both enrichment classes. Huge praises for being so respectful and loving! The 2nd and 3rd graders received their class pets today- two guinea pigs named Abby and Mady. I'm listening as they stand around the cage singing "Peace Like a River" to their new friends. Pretty cute! It was difficult to focus after the new classmates arrived but we managed to do some logic problems this morning, work on challenge math and our stories, investigate some science, and research our guinea pig origins. In 4th and 5th grade this week, we will be diving into our Odyssey of the Mind project for those students who are interested. You will receive a permission slip and explanation. There will be an alternate project for those students who are not interested. We will also be working on logic problems, analogies, STEM, and writing.
