The 2nd and 3rd grade classes had a great trip to the Museum of Glass. They learned about the glass shaping process and also about rolling prints. They also created their own designs with cut glass.
We finished up our cookbooks for 4th and 5th enrichment and we finished our STEM units on food for 2nd and 3rd grade. In November and December, we will be doing a unit on Japan and then also Christmas around the World. The students will get to pick projects of interest to work on during this unit. We will also be working on Lego Robotics as part of our STEM. On December 3rd, I need enrichment students to help sell our cookbooks at the church services. We will need to be there from 8:45am until about 1pm. Of course, kids will be signing up for hour shifts so they do not have to be there all morning. The last week before Christmas break, I will invite parents to come at the end of the day to see their Japan projects and also participate in our Christmas around the World presentations. Please stay tuned for the dates.
AMAZING AUTHORS A to Z Library Reading Challenge Welcome to the library reading challenge! This year, students will read books by 26 different authors with last names* beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Not only does this expose students to a variety of authors and illustrators, it also encourages reading across different genres (*For the letter X, they read an “eXtra” author of choice). These lists are not meant to be exhaustive. There are more wonderful authors out there that are not listed. I will be pulling many books each week to give them ideas of what authors and books to read. I encourage students to read books at their reading level but they are welcome to add lower books as well. Here are some guidelines of incorporating picture/chapter books. K-1st: do as many picture books or c...
Sorry for the delay in posting some pictures from our latest enrichment adventures! In November, we took a trip to the radio station. The kids learned quite a bit about the business of radio. They all had a chance to get recorded and we will hopefully get you a sound byte of that recording soon!
